Fig. 1 shows XRD patterns of the powders produced after different stages of milling the Cu–Al powder mixture with a composition of 14at.%Al. After ball milling for 1 h, both Al and Cu peaks are present in the XRD pattern, as shown in Fig. 1 (a). The position of Al and Cu peaks remain the same as those of pure Al and Cu phases, and no new peaks were observed.
